Patches using Multiplikand

Multiplikand is a great compact routing utility to distribute and mix audio and CV signals around your Eurorack. Multiplikand offers four active precision multiples, married to a unity gain mixer. Clever normalisation and a switch allow you to configure how the signals are summed.

Prototype Jam! TINRS Fenix IV, Plinky and Faust on Teensy#

The stereo organ pad is made on a Teensy 4.0, running an additive synth patch made with Faust DSP and the teensy audio library, controlled via MIDI with the Arturia Keystep Pro and patched into the Eurorack with our own Multiplikand module.

It's rhythmically chopped using This is Not Rocket Science's Wobbler complex LFO into Mutable Instruments Streams dual dynamics gate, using the TiNRS Fenix' sequencer to reset the LFO in time with the sequence. The bass is Moogs DIY voice Werkstatt 01, a CV-controlled voice with a ladder filter and that lovely Moog sub.

The granular glockenspiel is made with This is Not Rocket Science's Fenix IV Eurorack compatible system-in-a-box, with beautiful warbles from the onboard delay! TiNRS Fenix' sequencer allows for each of its four channels to have its own rhythm subdivisions and to be transposed via MIDI - this is exactly what's happening here using the Arturia keystep pro.

Fenix' extra seq channels are triggering a kick from GHzTomash Callisto teensy arduino DIY drum module, and gating some noise percussion using the Fenix' VCA. The lush swell of reverb at the end is coming from a combination of Fenix built-in verb and using our beta unit mmalex Plinky as an FX processor - DIY kits and the expander will soon be available again from Thonk.

The beats in the end come from our circuit bent e-licktronic NAVA TR909 clone, sequenced using the Roland Aria TR-8 drum machine. While the NAVA is an exact copy of the famous TR909 circuits, hacked by us with 34 mods to vastly expand the sonic palette of the instrument, the TR-8 is a digital emulation of the same synth and somewhat shunned for its color scheme. If you look beyond that, it's a very practical and lovely machine.

Additive Synth Patch with Faust DSP, Teensy Arduino and Modular#

Here's a neat clavinet like patch on teensy 3.6 arduino, running an additive synth patch made with Faust Functional Audio Stream DSP and the teensy audio library, controlled via midi with the Arturia Keystep and the Akai MPK Mini. The sound is then processed through the modular via our Tausend dB and Multiplikand modules, using the fantastic Random Source Serge Eurorack Wave Multiplier.

The drums are sequenced using our secret pattern generator, controlling Mutable Instruments Edges quad chiptune oscillator, the Leaf Audio VCO-I from Exploding Shed and Zlob Modular Entropy as a noise source, processed through Patching Panda’s drum modules Punch, Hatz and N.V.H.S. with a nice shiny delay from the Endorphin.es Milkyway. The tiny gameboy on top of the keystep is a super fun DIY gadget from This is not Rocket Science running on a single 3.3V button cell battery – the jump and run game on it is punishingly hard and we have yet to progress past level 7.

Poly Synth Patch with Faust DSP, Teensy Arduino and Modular#

Using our stayathome time to get stuck into digital signal processing! The teensy 3.6 arduino runs a polyphonic triangle patch made with FAUST Functional Audio Stream and the teensy audio library, controlled via MIDI with the arturia keystep. The sound is then run through the eurorack modular synth via our Tausend dB and Multiplikand modules, and processed through the awesome Random Source Serge wave multiplier.

On drums are Mutable Instruments Edges quad chiptune audio generator, the DIY Leaf Audio VCO-I from Exploding Shed and Zlob entropy, processed through Patching Panda’s drum modules punch, hatz and n.v.h.s. The drums are sequenced by the vpme.de euclidean circles and Befaco burst from Thonk, with a sprinkle of delay from the fantastic Endorphin.es milky way. ❤️ This Is Not Rocket Science from amsterdam for great insights and remote conversations and generally geeking out about this stuff with us.

Acid Bassline from a Kickdrum with Tuesday and CircularThing#

Here's a little experiment with our brand new This is Not Rocket Science's CircularThing drum module. We ran it through the wavefolder on the Random Source Serge Wavemultiplier - surprisingly turns out it's fantastic for TB303 like squelchy bass lines! The acid sequence is generated by TINRS Tuesday, a procedural sequencer for meloldies, sequencing pitch, velocity, gate and accents of the CircularThing upper voice. It's CV signals are distributed using our own module, Multiplikand.

The lower voice is triggered seperately and does the hihat pattern, using the white noise source TINRS added to the synth circuit, with some manual tweaking of CircularThing's tune and decay, through the EHX Crayon guitar pedal. The snare is Befaco's original kickall, modulated with noise from Patching Panda's shuby - both DIY eurorack kits from Thonk. The drum patterns are generated by our own secret pattern generator, and delay is the endorphin.es Milkyway.

And at 0:40 you can hear a tiny miaow by our own catsofmodular.

Shuffled Broken Robot Beats with TINRS CircularThing#

Using our stayathome time to make some broken robot beats! Stijn and Priscilla TINRS sent us this lovely modular quarantine care package, containing a facemask, soap, stickers, FenixIV cable ties and a This is Not Rocket Science CircularThing eurorack module - so cool and exciting! It's built around double the circuit of the Befaco kickall, and goes way beyond synthesizing a kickdrum.

In this patch, the upper voice does the gnarly 8bit R2D2 bleeps - the tune CV is modulated by Patching Panda 's shuby noise generator, run through the Random Source Serge wave multiplier. The lower voice is triggered seperately and does the hihat pattern, making use of the bipolar pitchbend and whitenoise source TINRS added to the synth circuit, with some manual tweaking of CircularThing's tune and decay.

The snare is Befaco's original Kickall modulated with pink noise from the Zlob entropy. The off-grid drum patterns are generated by our own secret pattern generator, and delay is the Endorphin.es Milky Way. Shout out DivKid for the awesome Kickall explainer, check his channel! Big ❤️ Stijn and Priscilla for sending this over!
